INTERVIEW…
Tracy Binnie // Occupational Therapy Advanced Practitioner
Bio: I am an occupational therapist working in Child and adolescent Mental health services in NHS Forth Valley. This means I help children and young people to become as independent as possible in doing all the things that they need and want to do. If they are struggling with something, then we look at what is getting in the way of them being able to do these things, we then work with them and their family to find practical solutions to allow then to re-engage with previous activities or indeed explore new activities.
To maintain flourishing mindset - always focus on what people can do and help them find strategies to overcome the things they find difficult. We are all different people, and all bring different things to the table of life.
Q: What changes would you like to see within CAMHS?
I’d like to see a welcoming, interactive and engaging space where young people feel connected. Somewhere they feel safe to wait and an environment that they feel they have contributed to.
Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
When things are difficult , take it slowly and look after yourself. Even if that means getting through a minute at a time. Don't think too far ahead, as worrying about things that haven't happened yet is a waste of energy.
