Wash House Garden, Glasgow (July 2022):

‘We are a Glasgow Market and Community Garden harnessing the power of good food to connect people with the natural world and one another.’Since 2018 we have been farming a secluded fifth of an acre tucked away behind the old Parkhead Wash House. This building was once a focal point for the local area and we mirror this by placing community at the heart of what we do. As a family of staff and volunteers we grow fruit and vegetables for 40 households and a few food businesses each week from Spring through Autumn, using organic, no-dig methods to ensure our ecosystem (including the people) is as healthy as possible.’

‘Art Safari Highland’ 2021/22

Q: What did you like about the workshop?

  • ‘The mental health aspect to it had a light touch and was handled delicately.’

  • ‘Being in a stunning environment among a small group of people, I felt excited, confident and free to draw. Robyn’s enthusiasm and sensitivity make for a fun, relaxing and safe experience.’

“The materials available continue to surprise. This is clearly a well thought through series of workshops and is invaluable to an area that historically does not have access to this kind of programme with any kind of regularity. The concept of using art as a therapy is broken down and made much more accessible whilst also being sensitively approached.”

Q: Did the workshop expand your skillset? Did you experiment with new materials or processes for example?

A: ‘Yes. A lovely selection of materials were given to us to use & keep. I felt confident to have a go using a few during the day but also came away excited about having a go at home too!’

A: ‘Yes, the handing out of materials that participants could take away and the explanation of how valuable a tool a sketchbook could be was brilliant.’

A:‘Absolutely. Loved the idea of a limited colour palette and drawing on cardboard with Sharpies’

‘Just dipped in mid-session

and felt instantly comfortable

and welcome’
